Designing for Equality & Diversity
Let's empower female and non-binary perspectives by and within design!
Gender Design Award iphiGenia
Designing for an equal world
Every two years, the iphiGenia Gender Design Award honors the world's most intelligent gender-sensitive designs. As role models, these projects demonstrate the innovative results that can be achieved when gender-sensitive methods and approaches are incorporated into the designprocess.

Failing to involve all genders in the design process can be dangerous
We can see this in car seat safety design – it is more likely that a woman will be seriously injured or die in a car accident.

Why iGDN
Design is a substantial part of our everyday world. Therefore it is necessary to bring gender awareness to the design process, to avoid both gender blindness and gender stereotypes.
Not all genders in design (as in others areas as well) enjoy equal participation and esteem. The potential of manifold genders is neither taken into account nor honored appropriately. Also, the impact of gender on the processes of production, distribution and use is still hugely underestimated.
What we do
Research & Knowledge Exchange
The iGDN initiates and supports research activities at the intersection of gender, design, and society. Through publications, collaborative research projects, and academic exchange, we contribute to critical discourse and foster the international transfer of knowledge between design research and practice.
Education & Capacity Building
We collaborate with universities, design schools, and educational institutions to promote gender-sensitive design approaches in teaching and learning. This includes lectures, workshops, guest seminars, and mentoring formats that empower students and emerging designers to critically reflect on design practices and societal impact.
Networking & Public Engagement
The iGDN creates platforms for international exchange between designers, researchers, cultural practitioners, and institutions. Through events, panels, exhibitions, and networking formats, we connect diverse perspectives and make gender-related design issues visible in public and professional contexts.
